People
with meagre income in the country can open Saving Accounts. This is the oldest scheme and
very popular.
- Introduction of the depositor is compulsory for individual
accounts unless the depositor is known to the Post Office.
- The
account can be opened by paying minimum of Rs. 50 in
cash. For opening of cheque account, minimum balance is
Rs.500/-
Except minor and illiterate, all depositors can have cheque facility.
- For
account standing at Branch Office, deposit and withdrawal can be made
at the account office.
- For
account standing at Extra Departmental Sub Office, deposit and withdrawal can be
made at the Head Office.
- Interest is determined on the least balance held in the
account between the close of 10th and end of the month.
- Nomination facility is available for all individual accounts,
except for account opened by minor.
